PCB To Take Fitness Tests Of Centrally Contracted Players

Pakistan Cricket Board Gives Players Fitness Test Alert :

Pakistan cricket board is ready to take fitness tests of players as they are very keen to keep check on their fitness levels. Hence, they warned the centrally contracted players to retain their fitness. If players failed to meet the requirements of fitness standards , PCB will deduct 15% of their monthly salaries.

Pakistan failed to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup in England last year, and won only one of their six Test matches.

The performance in One Day Internationals and T20I are also a reason to this strict act of PCB. Green caps only manage to won 1 T20 in their last 10 appearances. Out of 25 ODI’s , Shaheens only won 9 games.

As far as rankings are concerned,  Pakistan team is on 7th position in Tests, 6th in ODIs. Miraculously,  Green team still on number 1 ranked in T20I despite losing 9 of their last 10 matches. That’s why PCB decided to take fitness tests of contracted players.

The new head coach and chief selector Misbah ul Haq constantly stressing on fitness.

PCB official media release saying :

” All the available centrally contracted players will attend the two-day testing on January 6 and 7 in Lahore and any player failing to meet the minimum fitness requirements will be fined 15 per cent of his monthly retainer. The cut will be maintained until the player gets fit again.”

“Any player failing consecutive tests will risk the chances of retaining his central contract category and may face demotion” warned the PCB.

19 top players are under the central contract of PCB in A,B and C categories, getting monthly salaries ranging from 0.5 million to 1.1 million rupees.

Currently PCB is in with negotiations with the Bangladesh cricket board for home series. BCB agreed to play 3 T20I but are hesitant to play test matches in Pakistan.

PCB Central Contract Details:

Category A:

Sarfraz Ahmed , Babar Azam , Yasir Shah

Only 3 players are listed in the category A. They will get a huge amount of 1.1 million rupees as their monthly salaries.

Category B:

Asad Shafiq, Azhar Ali, Haris Sohail, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Abbas, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Wahab Riaz.

Total of 8 players made it to the category B. They will receive 0.5 million rupees monthly.

Category C:

Abid Ali, Hasan Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Rizwan, Shan Masood and Usman Shinwari.

These 8 players will get 0.35 million rupees salary per month.

The Pakistan cricket board is investing a huge amount of money on their players. So they demand fitness and performance from the players. The credit of this fitness talk must be given to Ex head coach Mickey Arther. He was the first person who introduced “fitness first” culture.

Uncertainty of players regarding fitness issues:

In Pakistan,  players often have fitness issues much more than any other international team. The reason is “Biryani Culture”. Players now must realise that fitness is the core to excellence in sports.

On the other hand , PCB should change the culture in which a player didn’t himself feel his spot safe in the team. If he is carrying injury , he will not tell anyone because player thought once he is out of the team , it is difficult to make a comeback. PCB should give players confidence.

Lets hope players will pass their fitness tests and will perform better in the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh.
