March 2019 ( Australia whitewashed Pakistan in UAE 5-0)

Pakistan chief selector Inzimam ul Haq rested 6 main players including the captain Sarfraz Ahmad. I mean why would you do that just before world cup?? Aussies, who were already on winning node by beating India in India, thrashed Pakistan and whitewashed them brutally. The shining lights of this series were wicket-keeper batsman M Rizwan and Middle order batsman Haris Sohail. Both batsman scored 2 centuries each but in loosing cause.

You can say it was another whitewash of 2019 for Pakistan.

4 Matches left , 4 Victories Required… No Problem:

After loosing from arch rivals , Pakistan have to win their remaining 4 matches in order to stay in championship. Let’s start the journey.

The first challenge in this journey was South Africa. Skipper Sarfraz won the toss and decided to bat first. Pakistan went on to put a decent total of 308 runs. Haris scored 89 runs with Babar Azam added 69 classy runs. Proteas , in reply , scored 259/9 in their allotted 50 overs. Wahab and Shadab picked up 3 wickets each.

Pak vs NZ (Boy turned in to Man, Babar Azam):

Pakistan gave their World Cup semi-final hopes a tremendous boost by ending New Zealand’s unbeaten start in the tournament with a crucial six-wicket success at Edgbaston. NZ scored 237/6 in 50 overs. Thanks to Jimmy Neesham‘s 97 runs and  Grandhomme‘s 64 runs. Both batsmen took kiwis to a respectable total after a terrible collapse earlier when they were 83/5.

Shaky green team lost early wickets and put them under severe pressure on a tricky pitch which was turning and spinning the ball as if it is 5th day test match wicket.  A polished innings from Haris Sohail (68) and Babar Azam’s unbeaten 101 sealed the win. Babar Azam played the innings of a life time in front of packed house.

After that, Pakistan sneaks a victory against Afghanistan in a hard fought contest. Imad Wasim drags Pakistan over the line in thriller against Afghanistan by scoring unbeaten 49 runs. Pakistan chased down 227 runs with 2 balls to spare.

Despite that victory in their last group match against Bangladesh, Pakistan failed to qualify for the semi-finals as they had an inferior net run-rate compared to fourth-placed New Zealand, who also had 11 points from nine matches. Shaheen Shah Afridi recorded Pakistan’s best-ever World Cup bowling figures with a scintillating spell of 6-35 in Friday’s win over Bangladesh at Lord’s.

September/October 2019 (Srilanka Tour of Pakistan)

Srilankan team visited Pakistan for ODI and T20I series. Their 10 main players refused to tour. Pakistan easily won the ODI series by 2-0.

T20I whitewash and Fall of Sarfraz Ahmad:

Srilankan young team whitewashed green team in their own backyard. That was unacceptable for the crowd as well as media. Misbah ul Haq, the chief selector and head coach of Pakistan , sacked Sarfraz Ahmad from captaincy. Sarfraz also removed from all the three formats as a player too. In my opinion, that was injustice to him as under his captaincy Pakistan became the number 1 T20I side of the world. The other thing that leads to his removal was his own performance.

November 2019 ( Aussies whitewashed Pakistan)

Once again Pakistan whitewashed by Aussies. Pakistan tour to Australia was a forgettable one. David Warner scored a triple century. Only Babar Azam stood in front of mighty Australian quicks. Yasir Shah poor form continued, but he stunned the Aussies by scoring a century with the bat. The idea of playing young inexperienced fast bowlers in Australia misfired.

December 2019 (Return of Test Cricket in Pakistan)

The last month of the 2019 brought the revival of test cricket in Pakistan. Srilanka agreed to tour Pakistan with their full strength.

The two test match series commenced from 11 December 2019 at Rawalpindi. Unfortunately , weather was not happy and rain affected match ended in a draw. Play of only two days possible. Srilanka declared their ist innings at 308/6. Dhananjaya de Silva scored an unbeaten 102 runs.

Emergence of Abid Ali (The Record Creator):

Here comes Pakistan innings on 5th day of test match. Pakistan opener Abid Ali , who was playing his debut test match , scored a century and became the ist male cricketer in the 200 year of cricket history, to score a century on both his ODI and Test Debut. Babar Azam also recorded a century.

Pakistan Ended 2019 On a Winning Node:

National stadium Karachi has been a happy hunting ground for Pakistan for many years. The second and last test match between Pakistan and Srilanka has scheduled here. Pakistan new test skipper Azhar Ali won the toss and elected to bat on a green surface. It turned out to be a disaster as Pakistan bundled out on 191 runs in their first innings on day 1. Srilanka managed to score 271 runs and grabbed a healthy lead of 80 runs. At that time match was in touring side hands.

2nd Highest Opening Partnership for Pakistan:

Who knows what Pakistan can do with the bat. Openers Abid Ali and Shan Masood took Pakistan to 278 runs opening stand. Shan Masood departed after scoring 135 runs. Abid Ali went on to score 174 runs. Skipper Azhar Ali came to the crease and scored a much needed century. He scored 118 runs. Babar ceased the opportunity by scoring another ton. Pakistan declared their innings at 555/3 at Lunch of Day 4.

Young Guns Fired:

The 19 year old Shaheen Shah Afridi picked up a fifer in the first innings. After that 16 year old Naseem Shah picked up a fifer in the 2nd innings and Pakistan won the 2nd test match easily by 263 runs.

Records tumbled:

Second time in the history of test cricket that top 4 batsman scored centuries in an innings.

First time in the history of test cricket , 16 year old picked up 5 wickets in an innings of a test match.

Final Verdict:

2019 was a horrible year for Pakistan cricket.

Pakistan team played 7 tests, lost 5 ,won only 1 and one match was draw.

In 27 ODIs , Pakistan had lost 15 matches and won only 9 matches. 3 matches were of no result.

8 T2oI ,Pakistan lost 7 and won only 1 match.

Green caps has been whitewashed 5 times.

Poor team selection leads the way of this destruction. As long as we do not give importance to our domestic cricket , we will face this kind of failure in future too. Lets hope that 2020 will bring a lot of joy and happiness for cricket fans and we finally see Fawad Alam playing for Pakistan. Kudos and Happy New Year 2020.

Stay with us in 2020.
