The soil of genuine fast bowlers always has the habit to produce raw talent of pure pace. Bowlers like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Shoaib Akhtar and for now its Haris Rauf. The new rising star of world cricket.
Haris Rauf belongs to Islamabad. He was a student in Islamabad Medical College. Initially, Haris was a football player and was declared best player of the local tournament. Due to his performance his team won that trophy.
Later, he joined the cricket team of International Islamic University, Islamabad. One day his coach noticed his sheer pace. He was troubling batsman in the nets by beating them almost every time he bowls.
Lahore Qalandars Player Development Program:
Meanwhile, Pakistan Super League’s franchise Lahore Qalandars started their own talent program.
In September 2017, International Islamic University’s coach asked Haris to attend the camp of Lahore Qalandars and give trials.
So, he went and attended the camp. Aaqib Javed, the director of LQ, spotted him. He asked his fellow coach to check his bowling speed from speedometer. Haris bowled six consecutive deliveries of over 90mph.
Aaqib Javed, The Real Mentor
The man behind Haris was the director of LQ, Aaqib Javed. He signed a contract with Haris on behalf of Lahore Qalandars. One thing we know about this contract is his salary of 1 Lac PKR per month. Aaqib groomed him, coached him. He worked very hard to polish skills of this raw talent.
Club Cricket in Australia:
Due to Lahore Qalandars players exchange program with Australian clubs. Rauf manage to play club cricket in Australia. He impressed everyone with his pace and aggression.
Haris first selected in LQ squad for Abu Dhabi T20 Trophy 2018. This marked his domestic carrier debut.
In March 2019, he was named in Baluchistan‘s squad for the 2019 Pakistan Cup. He made his List A debut for Baluchistan in the 2019 Pakistan Cup on 2 April 2019. In September 2019, he was named in Northern’s squad for the 2019–20 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy tournament. He made his first-class debut for Northern in the 2019–20 Quaid-e-Azam Trophy on 28 September 2019.
Big Bash League 2019, the turning point:
Melbourne Stars management called Haris Rauf as a replacement of injured Dale Styn. That was life changing event for Haris as he took 16 wickets in just 7 matches. In his short stint at BBL, he took a fifer as well as a hat trick.
Salute to Lahore Qalandars:
We are really thankful to Lahore Qalandars and especially Aqib Javed. Because of them, we got a new star. We are really concerned about LQ performance in PSL. Hope so, they will perform better in this upcoming PSL2020. We also wish Haris Rauf best of luck for its international career.
