Naseem Shah , 16 year old wonder boy of Pakistan
Pakistan’s habit of producing fast bowlers is no secret. The latest addition is a 16 year old Naseem Shah from Peshawar, born on 15 February 2003 in the KPK province city of Peshawar. He made his international debut for Pakistan in November 2019, becoming the ninth-youngest player to make their debut in Test cricket.
He made his first-class debut for Zarai Taraqiyati Bank Limited in the 2018-19 Quaid e Azam Trophy on 1 September 2018. He made his List A debut for Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited in the Quaid e Azam One Day Cup on 16 October 2018.
Naseem Shah made his test debut on 21 November 2019 against Australia in Australia. His first test wicket was Australian dashing opener David Warner. Aussies was really impressed with the pace of this 16 year old. During the series his mother passed away, it was a disaster for this teenager but he held back there and played the match. Later he was named in the Pakistan’s squad for the 2 test match series against Srilanka which was Pakistan’s home series after a period of 10 years.
In the 2nd match of the series , Naseem picked up his maiden 5 wicket haul and becomes the 2nd youngest bowler in the 200 year history of test cricket to pick 5 wickets in an innings. Pakistan won that match easily and with that Pakistan won the test series on their home soil after a gap of 10 years.
Right now Naseem Shah is under the coaching of Ace fast bowler of his time Mr Waqar Younis. We hope that under his coaching Naseem will grow up and will take the charge. He has played 3 test matches till 23 December 2019 and picked up 8 wickets. The young sensation has fiery pace that can trouble any top order batsman.
The latest controversy about him is his selection in the Pakistan’s U19 squad for the upcoming ICC U19 cricket world cup 2020. The coach of Pakistan U19 team Ijaz Ahmad said ” Naseem Shah will be our lead bowler in the upcoming ICC U19 cricket world cup 2020. I want him to play for us and that’s why selectors added him in the squad”.
Meanwhile, Shah is also the part of one of the two finalist teams of Pakistan Elite Domestic First class cricket tournament. The final of the this tournament will be starting from 27th December 2019 between Central Punjab and Northern . Naseem is representing Central Punjab. Pakistan’s main team head coach and chief selector Misbah ul Haq stated that “Naeem will not be available to Central Punjab for the Quaid e Azam trophy final because we want him to give some rest before the upcoming test series against Bangladesh”
Now its Tug of war between U19 team management and Test team management. Who will win ??? No body knows. But if sense prevails , A test cricketer shouldn’t be allowed to play U19 cricket. Because, after tasting the cricket at the highest level , it has no charm for him to play at his heart out in the U19 team. Let’s see what will happen next. Stay with us for more sports news.
